Course Narrative:
In this course, I was able to fulfill MLO 1 and MLO 2 requirements of this major because this course gave me information about the history and culture of Japan as it evolved to become one of the most powerful nations in the world. Examples of this would be from the thinking questions we had to do for each reading we did as homework. After each of these reads, we would then be given questions that would make us about what we had read. It also made us learn how to write in Japanese for each of these questions allowing us to expand our knowledge of Japanese. We also had to do a presentation about an aspect of Japanese culture and talk about it. For my project, I talk about the comparison of art that the Japanese created during the Tokugawa era and how it has affected western culture and vice versa. While taking this course, I realized that many different things happened during Japanese history, some of them were similar to how America history was like. An example of this is the similarity of the Sengoku War and the Civil War. Even though I have taken this course, there is some things that I still feel like I should still learn about. One example is learning about the more current history of Japan. Although I have learned about the history of Japan up to World War II, I still don’t know about anything after that. In order for me to better use this understanding of Japanese history and culture; I may have to do some extra research about their history and culture.
