3.1
This course allowed me to fulfill MLO 3 because it allowed me use the knowledge I gained from my main studies to better understand and relate to the ideas of the secondary culture study. By taking the course HCOM 345 I was able to make some comparisons with Chicano culture and Japanese culture. One example of this is their ideas on religion and myth like how the Chicano culture believed that there was a sun god named Huitzilopochtli while Japan named their sun deity Amatarasu. They are both similar in being a god from the son. However, Huitzilopochtli was a combination of gods gained through the Aztecs journey to Mexico while Amatarasu did not have that style of birth.
3.2
Another thing HCOM 345 allowed me to do was make similar connections between the Chicano and Japanese perspective and ways of thinking. One example of this is the idea of family in both Chicano and Japanese families. The similarities between Chicano and Japanese families were that they were taught to be respectful to those who were older than them and they were also taught how to act in society. They both also had a desire for honor among their families as it would reflect who they were to others around them. Because of this course, I was able to make connections and understanding about a different culture other than my own and because of this; I gained knowledge about a culture that I did not know at the time.
