Course Narrative:
Because of this course, I was able to fulfill MLO 1 because this course allowed me to learn about the different speaking and writing structures in the Japanese language. An example of this would be how we relearned about what grammar forms to certain Japanese particles such as “Te” and “Sou” form of Japanese writing and speaking. It allowed me to also improve my speaking skills in Japanese as well as helping me learn how to explain different sentence structures in Japanese. Because of this course, I was able to remember some of the things I had learned while I was studying in Japan. This class allowed me to gain a better understanding on how different the Japanese language and speaking can be compared to the English way of speaking in America such as the order of words that are spoken or written or the different forms of respect one gives to those who are higher or lower than us in society. Even though I have taken this course, I feel like my speaking and understanding of the Japanese language needs improvement. An example of this would be the different styles of speaking and grammar structures that the Japanese use or when is the right time to use them like how to use sonkeigo or kenjougo when talking to people in a company. I have also learned how to write an introduction in Japanese writing on their a special writing paper called Genko yoshi. From what I have learned from this course, I may try to use styles of speaking such as sonkeigo or kenjougo when I am talking to my teachers or someone who is higher up in places that ask for it.
