MLO Narrative:
1.1
These courses allowed me to fulfill MLO 1 because it allowed me to use the Japanese language skills I learned in these classes to better communicate with the native speakers of Japanese. In JAPN 300, I learned the basic Japanese language skills that most Japanese learn in elementary and middle school years. One example of this was how I learned how to write a presentation script as well as what format Japanese use to write sentences on power point presentations. This allowed me gain better understanding of Japanese as it was taught in Japanese so we could understand what would happen when we would take more advance classes in the future. In JAPN 302, I learned about the history of Japan while it was spoken in Japanese. In this class, I learned about Japan’s history from pre-Japan to the end of World War II. One example of this is I learned about some of the art and culture that the Japanese Tokugawa era had during that time period. Through this class I was able to gain an appreciation of the history that Japan went through during that time period.
1.2
In JAPN 312, I learned how to speak and write in a professional matter that Japanese use in the business world. One example of this was how our classes had to do a video while speaking in professional Japanese manner using the correct grammar as well as making sure we spoke in a fluent way. Thanks to this class I was able to understand how professional Japanese must act while they are in the professional world of business. In JAPN 401, I had to learn about the different patterns and tenses Japanese use when speaking. An example of this would be how they have to do high to low pitch when speaking as well as extending sounds for certain words like “がっこう” and “ゆうき.” Each of these classes allowed me to gain a better understanding of what Japanese langue is like and how many different formats the language has in Japan.
